New Tools, New Teachers Resources

What is Web 2.0? In short, it is the new web. This is a "nickname" for the web where anyone can participate in its creation of content. You no longer need to know "code". It is open participation and many new resources have included this type of participation tool. We can not only read, but also create, repurpose, share and collaborate. Watch video.

21st Century Skills are skills students will need to be successful in our society. Today's teachers need better tools to help prepare our students for their future. Tools that will help them with the skills of collaboration, communication, inventive thinking, project management, multicultural understanding, and others.

ISTE's technology standards for students and teachers focuses on how to "help students prepare to work, live, and contribute to the social and civic fabric of their communities." The NETS skills are categorized as follows: Creativity and Innovation, Communication and Collaboration, Research and Information Fluency, Critical Thinking, Problem Solving and Decision-Making, Digital Citizenship, Technology Operations and Concepts.

With this shift of focus, we, as teachers, need to be wise in selecting the best instructional tools that will help our students meet these standards and criteria. Daily, new web 2.0 tools are being introduced and it is time-consuming to sift through the many resources available. My hope is that you will find this wiki as a resource to help you choose the best tool for your classroom teaching and learning.
